Contact Makeda Mahadeo is a Rwandan events host, radio presenter, DJ, vlogger, and media personality.
While most celebrities love flaunting foreign designer clothes on their socials and are usually eager to show the world what big labels they are dressed in, Makeda’s Instagram is a runway for Rwandan designers.
The media personality wears clothes, belts, sandals, jewelry, bags and many more accessories made in Rwanda and usually tags to give the local designers praise and a shoutout.
She has been going hard on the #tag #MadeInRwanda since the year began and we are not even complaining.
We have compiled some of our favorite looks from Makeda’s Instagram feed.
Our first favorite look is this Casandra (Jo’Camana) top worn with Afriek pants and Uzuri K&Y shoes, all Rwandan brands.
Here Makeda wears the trademark stripe prints of one of Rwanda’s best and most celebrated designers, Moses (Moshions)
We love this white and blue combo that is giving us Fashion blogger vibes. The dress is from one of Rwanda’s fast growing fashion brands, Haute Baso, the jewellery is handmade by Sarah Legrand and the look is wrapped up by a handbag from Dokmairwanda, a Rwanda brand that hand makes leather bags and other accessories.
This corporate casual kitenj/ Ankara assemble is by Señorita Privé, a Rwandan fashion brand based in Ghana.
Here, Makeda wears Rwanda’s traditional wear, the Mushanana, made by fashion designer, Germaine Mwananawe Bugingo, who mixes traditional attire with modern contemporary designs.
This striped dress screams casual comfort. It was tailored by Haute Baso, and is complimented by a yellow bag from heytgfa.com
We stan a queen that blends looks effortlessly. This business/casual assemble has fashionable earrings from Inzuki designs, and jacket and belt from Moshions.
For our final fave, Makeda rocks this look in a shirt by another celebrated Rwanda designer, House of Tayo.
We shall continue looking out for East African designers and more celebrities that support local designers, so look out for our fashion features.
