COVID-19 has been a real motherfucker- but it has led directly to some really incredible efforts, especially from the creative scene within East Africa. The latest EP from Bengatronics (and friends), written, recorded and completed entirely during lockdown is one of these efforts- and was released last week on September 15th.
Check out some of the sounds HERE.
‘lockdownlove EP is the arrival of the long awaited debut from Les Bengatronics. It took #covid19 and a global #lockdown for the collective to explore the uncertainty that is life. The result is dance therapy, an upbeat journey through urban Kapuka and the folk beat of Dodo music from the Luo community of Western Kenya.
“This 4 track EP is yet another milestone in the quest for the sound of #KeyanDanceMusic. While it was made during the lockdown of Covid19, the EP will continue to uplift our spirits and smash homes and dancehalls for a long time to come. Once again, this music invites you to dance, please obey!” says Mwalimu. Gregg Tendwa, the curator of the project.
Through this EP, Les Bengatronics stands in solidarity with artists across the world in times of #Covid19.’
These tracks definitely shouldn’t be missed- and are definitely worth pulling the trigger on a purchase.
